The F.Et.E. Department currently organises two versions of the Test de connaissance du français:

  • TCF for the general public (TCF TP) on computer: compulsory comprehension and language-structure tests, with an optional written-expression test on request;
  • TCF for the Demande d’admission préalable (TCF DAP) for admission to the first year of a bachelor’s degree.

TCF IRN: Université Paris Nanterre is not currently a TCF IRN examination centre.

Computer-based TCF for the general public

Test type and target group

Official general French test for people aged 16 or over whose first language is not French and who need certification for academic, professional or personal purposes.

Tests and duration

Three assessed compulsory tests — 76 questions, official duration: 1 hour 25 minutes:

  • listening comprehension: 29 questions — 25 minutes;
  • language structures: 18 questions — 15 minutes;
  • reading comprehension: 29 questions — 45 minutes.

On computer, 91 items are displayed: the 76 assessed questions and 15 experimental items, 5 for each skill, which are not included in the score. France Éducation international states that these items add approximately ten minutes to the test.

Optional test offered by the centre on request: written expression, 3 exercises — 60 minutes. The centre does not currently advertise the optional speaking test.

Date and venue

Registration is currently closed. The next date will be published once approved. Tests take place at Université Paris Nanterre, Ricœur Building, office LR12 on the ground floor. The invitation gives the date, time and, where necessary, the exact room.

Fee and payment

  • compulsory tests: €102;
  • optional written expression: an additional €29.

Payment is made by bank card only, after the invitation has been received and at least 48 hours before the test, in office LR12. A place cannot be guaranteed until registration and payment have been validated.

Registration and required information

Email secretariat-fete@phillia.parisnanterre.fr with your surname, first name, email address, nationality, country of birth, usual language, date of birth, telephone number, reason for taking the test and a recent passport photograph on a white background. On the test day, you must present the invitation and a valid official photo ID.

Invitation and results

The invitation is sent after the application has been validated; the centre does not publish a fixed advance-notice period. For computer-based multiple-choice tests only, results are sent to the centre within a maximum of 10 working days after the session closes. When written expression is included, France Éducation international announces 15 working days after receiving the session materials.

TCF DAP — preliminary admission application

Test type and target group

The TCF DAP is for international applicants submitting a Demande d’admission préalable to enter the first year of a bachelor’s degree at a French university. The test must be taken at the university where the DAP application was submitted.

Compulsory tests and duration

  • listening comprehension: 29 questions — 25 minutes;
  • language structures: 18 questions — 15 minutes;
  • reading comprehension: 29 questions — 45 minutes;
  • written expression: 3 exercises — 60 minutes.

Total duration: 2 hours 25 minutes.

Dates and venue — 2026-2027 campaign

  • registration: 15 November to 15 December 2026 at 11:59 p.m.;
  • test: Friday 5 February 2027;
  • venue: Université Paris Nanterre; the exact room and times are stated on the invitation.

Fee and payment

€74. Payment is made to France Éducation international:

  • by bank card during online registration, with the option to print the confirmation; or
  • by cheque payable to the Agent comptable de France Éducation international and sent to: France Éducation international — Inscriptions TCF DAP, 1 avenue Léon-Journault, 92318 Sèvres Cedex, France.

Registration and required documents

Register exclusively on the France Éducation international website. Applicants must have submitted their preliminary admission application and follow the document requirements shown on the platform. On the test day, they must present their invitation and a valid official photo ID.

Invitation and results

The invitation is sent after registration closes. No fixed dispatch date is published: applicants should check their inbox and spam folder. Results are sent to the centre within a maximum of 15 working days after France Éducation international receives the session materials.

TCF IRN and DELF

TCF Integration, Residence and Nationality

Université Paris Nanterre is not currently a TCF IRN examination centre. Candidates may consult the official TCF IRN information and find an approved centre through France Éducation international.

DELF

The DELF is an official French Ministry of Education diploma certifying French proficiency from CEFR level A1 to B2. Université Paris Nanterre is not a DELF examination centre. See the practical information and list of DELF-DALF centres.
